first/second generation
This generation started with the release of Fairchild Channel F console, in November 1976. This console marked a new generation because of its technology advances. Now the famous cartridges were introduced making it possible to buy a console not because of an specific game but an entire experience, you could with an only console play a game which hadn’t been released yet. Also, this advanced cartridges turn the gameplay experience less limited, the games depended less from the TV resources like audio, some brought with them.
Second Generation (1976 - 1992)
The stars of this generation were Fairchild Channel F, Atari 2600 & 5200, Bally Astrocade, Magnavox Odyssey², Intellivision and Vectrex. The technology used in this consoles was very similar, that is why they are all in the same generation. They had a bit more memory and CPU process, this memory increasing raised the color palette space turning the games more colorful.
Some of the most famous games of this generation were Videocart 13: Robot War/Torpedo Alley(Fairchild Channel F), Pitfall(Atari 2600), H.E.R.O.(Atari 2600), Galaxian(Bally Astrocade), Atlantis(Magnavox Odyssey²), Centipede(Atari 5200), Donkey Kong(Intellivision & Atari), MineStorm(Vectrex), etc.
