“Fish around fallen trees, weed beds and
tule patches for the top channel cat action.”
There are some huge cats lurking in the
waters of Lake Del Valle. Just ask Helen
Marquez of Livermore, who caught a catfish
weighing 14.9 lbs, or Destined Wright of
Brentwood, who landed a channel cat going
14 lbs.
“For stripers, most anglers are using
either anchovies, sardines, or mackerel,”
advised McGarry. “Fish around rocky
points, and deep drop offs. Some anglers
are saying they had luck on top water
fishing early morning boils, I would also
recommend using smaller swim jigs or jerk
baits and working at 5 to 15 feet deep.”
Ted Kang of San Jose landed 2 stripers
weighing a total of 8 pounds.
Most black bass anglers are using soft
plastics right now, mainly Senkos and curly
tail swim jigs. “You might also be able to
get them on crankbaits or smaller top water
lures,” McGarry noted. “Fish coves, tule
patches and sandy beaches.”
John Foster and Al Hurwitz of Saratoga
trolled the lake, looking once again for
smallmouth bass.

“We fished all sections of the lake and
caught 11 smallies, some weighing in
excess of 1.5 lbs.,” said Hurwitz. “Panther

15 feet below the surface.”

Don Pedro, but hard working trollers are

rainbows to 3 pounds.
“On my latest trip to the lake, we boated
4 trout to 3 pounds and one largemouth
bass out of the 8 fish we hooked,” said
