Friends of Scientifica A journey through Great Movies The Space and alien life were ever fascinating topics for science fictions. Science fiction movies, where the space missions, accidents in space, the breath-taking and brave efforts by astronauts to return to earth are always a matter of astonishment to the viewers. From the movie Apollo 13 based on lunar mission, till the recent Gravity and Interstellar, many similar films were giving us the experience of the unknown world of space travel. Even when the viewers are on extreme anxiety, the scenes in the movies familiarizes us the most complicated task like spacewalk. The latest movie “Martian”, which narrates the story of an astronaut who got struck at the distant mars planet is yet a different experience to the viewers. In this movie, we see a mars mission which NASA plans after 20 years. As part of the Ares III mission, six astronauts headed by Melissa Lewis is exploring the horizons of mars, where the movie ‘Martian’ begins. It is the 18 the day since they reached the reddish empty plains. It was suddenly, when Commander Lewis was collecting samples, she received the emergency message from earth NASA’s mission control station. A fierce storm of dust is heading towards their camp. Cancel the mission and return immediately to the spacecraft Hermes in orbit. One of the astronaut Mark Watney is lost in the dust storm and darkness. The commander received telemetry message that the astronaut was hit by machinery parts and his space suit got danged with holes. If the suit is damaged the person inside will die in one minute. It is a stage when they feared that their launch vehicle for return also is getting damaged in the storm, the team decided to blast off leaving mars behind assuming Watney is dead by now. April, 2016
