In the Standard model , confirmation came about almost all particles except the Higgs Boson . To prove that the Higgs Mechanism is right , confirmation about the existence of Higgs Boson was necessary . Doubts emerged from many quarters that the Standard model itself would fall apart and that no such particle ever existed .
Finally , the existence of Higgs Boson was confirmed , thanks to the Atlas and CMS experiments in the Large Hadron Collider .
There was a reason for not being able to find out the Higgs Boson earlier . There is a mass limit wherein , it was predicted that such particles exist and we didn ’ t have the proper equipments with sufficient capacity to find out that limit . But LHC has that capacity . That particle accelerator was designed itself with the aim to find out the existence of Higgs Boson .
In the name of the ‘ name ’
The scientific discovery of S . N . Bose and Higgs Boson theory has no relation except in the names . Bose had discovered a statistics . He used that statistics for derivation of the quantum equation formulated by Marx Plank . He proved that , to do so , there was no need of classical particle theory .
He didn ’ t contribute anything more in that direction . But without doubt , his discovery was a brilliant turning point in quantum physics and all Indians can definitely take pride in that .
But the real issue here is whether Bose has anything to do with Higgs Boson and also whether Indians have anything to boast about in it .
We now learned that it was just because that quantum particle is a force-carrier particle which represents the Higgs field . If in 1945 , Dirak had given another name to those forcecarrier particle , what then ? For example , assume that Derik had names those particles which follow Bose-Einstein statistics as ‘ Einsteinion ’, then naturally Higgs Boson would have become now Higgs Einsteinion .
How childish it would be if , say , a British newspaper comes up with a claim that all British people can rightly take pride in the cleaning of ‘ Bilathikulam ’ in Calicut ? Claims of pride in the name of Higgs Boson would be nothing different from claims as that .
What we can rationally say or claim is that , Higgs Boson is just another particle like others , which are generally known in the name of an Indian Scientist Sathyendra Nath Bose .
