Bouncing back to chase No. 13
For the first time in their high school career, the upcoming Aledo senior class experienced the feeling of postseason heartbreak in 2024. A 31-21 loss to District 3-5A rival Denton Ryan in the 5A Div. I regional final left the Bearcats stunned.
“ We were coming in as twotime defending champs and a lot of times, we get caught up in thinking it’ s handed to us,” said wide receiver Lincoln Tubbs. Fellow receiver and last year’ s All-Weatherford Democrat MVP, Kaydon Finley, felt like he let the team down for his lack of impact in the second half.
Finley and the Bearcats reiterated the word complacency to describe last season. After defeating the Raiders earlier in the year, Finley said Aledo“ took them lightly.”
The team didn’ t take much time to mourn the loss, immediately getting back in the weight room and working to bounce back in 2025.
“ Compared to last summer, we’ ve had a much better spring and a much better summer as far as seeing more hunger in the kids,” said Bearcats Head Coach Robby Jones.
Offense
The Bearcats see many familiar faces offensively, especially up front. Four linemen return as starters, with the fifth gaining three games worth of experience in 2024.
Entering his final season before heading to South Bend, Finley has developed his game and leadership skills following the regional final loss.
Now, with the recruiting process behind him, the future Fighting Irishman can focus on the team and looks to have a big increase on the field.
“ My junior year was testing the waters, seeing what skills I’ m really good at,” said Finley.“ This year, I’ m gonna plug it all into my game.”
