ability.
With much stability up front and talent at the skill positions, the focus lies on limiting mistakes for the Roos offense. In 10 games last season, Weatherford committed 27 turnovers.
Despite the high number of turnovers and injuries, the Roos still finished with the third-best offense in District 3-6A. Moreover, the team had an opportunity to clinch the final playoff spot with a win over Mansfield in its regular season finale.
Losing the final game to the Tigers meant no postseason appearance for Weatherford, but at least having a chance and playing till the end pleased Sims for the team’ s effort.
Feeling optimistic about a complete turnaround, Gray will be surprised if the Roos don’ t finish at the top of the district offensively as they attempt to break the school record for points per game.
DEFENSE
The defensive side of the ball took the biggest hit of graduating players, leaving the Roos with not much varsity experience, Sims noted.“ It’ ll be a work in progress,” said Sims. Burlison reiterated the key losses and pressed the reliance on the new guys to step up as they fill roles. Learning a lot from the North Crowley game last year, Burlison considered the meeting with a state champion as an ethical victory. The Roos went on to beat Lake Ridge and Boswell the following weeks.
According to Gray, the Roos have dealt with adversity well. Trying to win their first playoff game since 1998, Everyone within the program is ready to prove everybody wrong in 2025.
