My wife is celebrating her 60th
birthday in July and has always
wanted to travel on the
Rocky Mountaineer in Canada. What
is the best time of the year to go
and what are the options, perhaps
including an Alaskan Cruise?
One of the most coveted rail journeys is a journey aboard the Rocky Mountaineer in Western Canada.Travelling on board
during the day, enjoying beautiful scenery and hospitality, whilst each evening leaving to stay at a hotel en route to your next
destination. Your luggage is magically transported to your hotel room.
You can join any of the four routes at specific locations along the way or travel the whole route depending on your personal
preference and budget. There are wonderful opportunities to see the dramatic scenery and wildlife, including the bear, deer,
elk, moose, and birds like the bald eagle and osprey from the comfort of your seat in one of the domed carriages. The train even
slows down to allow you to make the most of anything interesting along the way and take photographs. There are 4 main routes:
1. Coastal Passage this newest route
connects Seattle, birthplace of Starbucks,
with Vancouver and on to Jasper, Lake
Louise and Banff, Alberta, covering 595 miles,
all in the daylight. This is the ideal journey to
combine with an Alaskan cruise.
2. Journey through the Clouds passing by
the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies,
Mount Robson called the Great White Fright
by climbers as only 10% of sum
