Lack of workforce development (i.e. training or upskilling programmes) in the industry • The culture of continuous learning and upskilling is currently not wide spread in the industry as only about half of employees provide training or upskilling programmes to their employees • Most of the establishments are not utilizing HRDF levy for workforce training. Attitude problem and lack of soft skillsets among fresh graduates • Employers have highlighted attitude problem and lack of discipline among fresh graduates. While technical skills are important, soft skill and attitude are also highly emphasized by employers. • Problem solving skills, communication skills and ability to work independently are perceived as the top skill gaps among entry-level employees. 3. Improve skillsets of graduates by strengthening collaboration and better aligning education inputs with industry needs Lack of collaboration between employers and IHLs • Overall, only about half of the surveyed establishments in the PSA industry collaborate with educational institutions. Most of these collaborations are focused on providing internship/industry attachment while other forms of collaborations are severely lacking.
