8.2 Key Issues & Recommendation
The environmental scan has identified several issues and challenges within the PSA industry as listed
below. Four key recommendations have been developed to address these issues and challenges.
Key Issues
Lack of awareness and low adoption of automation
• Most of the establishment do not believe that their business
processes can be automated despite having awareness of
technological disruption.
• Only 17% of the establishments that think their business
processes can be automated currently employ robots or other
labour saving devices. Most of these establishments only
employ 1 robot / labour saving devices.
• Among establishments that currently do not employ robots or
labour saving devices, only 3 of these establishments (4%) plan
to deploy new robots/labour saving devices within the next 12
months. All of these 3 establishments are accounting firms.
• Certain sector such as the legal sector has a higher
representation of semi-skilled workers, especially clerical
support workers in order to carry out routine tasks.

Technological disruption within the Professional Services sector

Technological disruption is taking place within the PSA sector
and is expected to redefine workplaces and create new
opportunities. As such, the industry needs to embrace the
latest technologies and leverage on key emerging trends in
order to drive efficiencies, strengthen their capacity and stay
competitive.
Lack of skills and specialised talents in the existing talent pool
•
The industry has reported that the top reasons for difficulty in
finding talents for hard-to fill positions are due to the lack of
technical skills and competencies, and lack of specialized
knowledge.
