National Employment Returns (NER) 2018 Education Level Overall Observations Figure 3.2 shows that at least one third of Malaysian employees employed by the establishments in NER 2018 is tertiary educated. 43% of them had at least secondary education qualifications. About 4% of the employees received up to primary education level and there were still 4% of them who did not receive any formal education. On the other hand, only 4% of the Malaysian workforce have received up to SKM education level (TVET-equivalent qualifications). Figure 3.2 Distribution of Malaysian Full-Time Employees by Highest Education Level Sectoral Breakdown NER 2018 results show that at least 50% of employees within the Information & Communication and Financial & Insurance/Takaful sectors had degree qualifications and above (refer to Figure 3.3). Those employed in Transportation & Storage, Mining & Quarrying, Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing, Manufacturing, Wholesale & Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles or Motorcycles, and Accommodation & Food Service sectors had the highest share of employees who attained secondary education or less. 73
