Rooibos looking for
opportunities in Asia
SOUTH AFRICAN tea company
Rooibos is tapping fresh oppor-
tunities in Asia. And taking part
in FHA2018 is one of the best
ways to do this, according to the
company’s China representative
Kieran Van Zyl.
Traditionally, a leading supplier
of processed tea products in bulk,
Rooibos today wants to focus on
value-added products including
tea capsules, packed products (tea
bags) and condiments made with
tea extracts.
Van Zyl says with the new prod-
uct focus, Rooibos is keen to do a
lot of market education and invest
in building awareness of its brand,
even as it is enjoying a very high
level of interest from hotels and
restaurants in the region.
Rooibos tea capsules and tea
pillows, for example, can be found
in hotel rooms and restaurants.
“We are not resting on our
laurels. The opportunities in
Southeast Asia are unprecedent-
ed, particularly for specialty teas
and quality tea products. With
the rise of the middle class in Asia
and increasingly health-conscious
consumers, we are positioned for
business growth.
“Our tea products enjoy quick
market acceptance because they
are caffeine-free, have a high level
of anti-oxidants, and contain no
additives, preservatives or colou-
rants,” says Van Zyl.
Rooibos opened an office in
Shanghai late last year, adding to
its presence in the region which
includes offices in Sri Lanka and
Japan.
