A Long Trek and a Little Taste…

of Chile

ecently, I took a trip with friends to Valparaiso, Chile. They had just completed an arduous 5-day trek in Patagonia and were looking for some garden variety R&R. We got just that as well as beautiful weather, friendly people, vibrant street art on every block, and fresh, inventive food.

Our favorite places to eat and drink were La Caperucita y el lobo (Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf) in Valparaiso, Sativo in Vina del Mar, and La Estancia el Cuadro and Vina casas del bosque wineries in Casablanca. Every place had great service, friendly and knowledgeable staff, delicious food, and plenty of vegetarian options. We also had a chance to try aromatic baked breads, muffins, and pastries along with unique, delicious ice creams at street shops.

What I failed to mention however, is that back in April, I gave birth to my baby boy and had been nesting in my home city of Chicago ever since. We make the effort to take him everywhere, whether it’s restaurants, bars, museums, parks, or even to friends’ birthday parties, which he mostly sleeps through, and our Chile adventure was no different.
