Now for those of you that are thinking they need a heartier snack, like my husband, pack peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. This is packed with protein and, opting for a lower sugar jelly and enriched grain bread, can be a fulfilling treat! (Sourdough bread is also an excellent choice as well as it’s ingredients are less processed and will also keep the bread moist and last longer.)
When you do get to your destination and there are brilliant restaurants all around, going out for meals can feel like a treat! Treat is the key word, practice to keep it a treat. We don’t have to over indulge in every meal while we are away, but yes indulge and enjoy. I think the key with keeping healthy while on vacation is remembering balance. Not only will your body thank you, but so will your wallet.
For our gym goers, unfortunately not every hotel or place we stay comes equipped with a gym. This doesn’t mean we have to cut out our exercise routines until we return back home/ As long as we have enough space to fit in a plank or down dog pose, that is enough! Push-ups, crunches, squats, lunges, side planks; there are so many ways to work our muscles just using our body weight. You can also incorporate Isometric training. These exercises involve constantly contracting your muscles, which helps build a lot of strength. Livestrong is a good website offering more information about isometrics.
