First, for those of you that are afraid of carbohydrates, I encourage you to read closely. You need carbs to maintain proper functioning of your brain, muscles, and heart. That being said, your carb source should be different in how you plan to maintain your healthy weight/lifestyle. It does not have to start with fruit or pasta and bread made from white flour, which are simple sugars that break down quickly in our system or can be stored as fat (if they are not burned off as fuel). Vegetables, beans, nuts, and seeds also count as carbs, but with a lower carb count. That being said, taking one thing out of your diet will leave your body in a deficit. Even high fat diets need a form of carbohydrate to properly digest. Simple carbohydrates are okay earlier in the day when your body is more likely to burn them, e.g.- half a bagel, piece of rye bread, an apple, but limiting yourself to one simple carb a day or not at all is your best bet to weight loss/ maintenance.
Next you should bite into some protein. Protein exists all over the world, so whether you’re in France or Bora Bora, protein is readily available. Fish, beans, nuts, tofu, eggs, and beef are just some of the examples of protein that create the form and build the foundation of your physique. Again, leaving out protein can wreak havoc on your system, leaving your blood sugar off balance and destroying fascia (muscle fibers), along with many other ailments.
Last, fat might be some people’s favorite macro. Fat
keeps the body healthy and this was something I had to learn the hard way. Having a very low body fat percentage can be just as detrimental as being at a high body fat percentage. We need essential fatty acids just like we need essential amino acids. These can be found in avocado, salmon, eggs, olive oil, etc.
All that being said, you can eat in this order your entire life. The realest news is that when you eat in this order your body is being nourished. Therefore, once you get to the fats and sweets, you more than likely won’t have a craving. A desire for certain types of foods comes when we aren’t fed right. Much like life, right?
Look down at your plate and have a plan. Isn’t that what life is about anyways? The choices you make create the outcome we want. Watch how your body and mind changes as you give it exactly what it needs to thrive!
This method is dear to me because of my own personal struggles with food. Having been very overweight to very underweight at one point, I needed to find my own path. Perhaps my path might work for you. Eat to live and keep thriving.
