Tinder has a reputation of being a casual “hook up” app. I am not especially fond of that reputation, but many people I had talked to prior claimed that they had gone on fun dates, met interesting people, and in one case met their significant other. When you get on Tinder you are required to make a profile with pictures and a bio if you feel so inclined. I decided to omit the bio so I seemed more mysterious and I picked the pictures I thought made me the most likeable. Once the profile is created, the fun part begins. You can swipe left if you are not interested or swipe right if you are. If they are interested as well you will match and you are provided the opportunity to message each other.

I will admit it was exciting to see that I matched with someone, but the experience as a whole got old very fast. I am on a college campus with about 40,000 people and half of those are men so having to sift through them all got very boring. That was until I got my first message. It was from a guy named Adam and he sent a cheesy pick up line which I found endearing and we started talking about our majors and what we wanted to do after college. In the middle of the conversation, he stopped responding and then twenty four hours later, I woke up to a message from him. It was a disturbing picture from the movie, “The Human Centipede”. If you haven’t seen it, I would suggest looking it up and then you will understand why we stopped communicating after that.
