Based on the 4 million attendees and an estimated $750 million generated in the local economy, it’s obvious that the Tribeca Film Festival was exactly what this area needed. Now in its 15th year, the festival, presented by AT&T, will take place April 13-24 in the Tribeca neighborhood in Manhattan.
Attending this ever-expanding festival gives you an opportunity to see world premieres, documentaries, and feature and short films. TFF’s support of cutting edge technology also gives you a chance to see the world through a different lens. Don a pair of glasses and/or a headset and you’re walking above the clouds, cruising through the streets of South Central Los Angeles, witnessing a monster’s beheading, or even experiencing the realistic consequences of a nuclear explosion without leaving the safety of Tribeca. Storytelling has never been this creative and is sure to be a mind-blowing experience.
TFF, a leader not only in technology and filmmaking, but also in diversity, gives many new directors a chance to share their creations. One-third of those directors this year are women focusing on a wide variety of topics. Famous stars, rising stars, and word of mouth buzz about films consumes attendees, but finding the best-suited film for you can be overwhelming. Let’s give you just a sampling of the delights to see this year at TFF to help you choose.
First on the menu is the “Documentary” category. Thanks to a narrative storytelling approach, “docs” can be every bit as entertaining as a feature film, but you have the added benefit of enriching your knowledge and maybe even your life. “Bugs” is one of the more unusual docs which follows a food scientist and a chef who are researching alternative protein sources for consumption. You just might think twice before you fish that fruit fly out of your glass of wine—you’ll consider it an extra dose of protein.
