September 11, 2001. It’s a date that effected not only NYC and the United States, but the entire world. The World Trade Center was located in the Tribeca neighborhood of Lower Manhattan and with the attacks came a virtual halt to not only the lives lost, but the vitality of the area. In an effort to revive the economy of this neighborhood, Robert DiNero, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff founded the Tribeca Film Festival (TFF). Its mission was and still is, to “help filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience” and demonstrate to the public the power of cinema while promoting NYC.
