Hereford Lions Club want to thank all those families
who supported the club’s annual Santa’s Grotto at
Wyevale Garden Centre over the Christmas period last
year and helped the club raise a record £6,500 for local
charities.
The Lions Grotto has been a key feature of Christmas
in the city for over a quarter of a century, but for last
festive season the decision was taken, jointly with
Wyevale, not to charge the usual entrance fee but invite
families, if they wished, to make a donation to the Lions
charity fund. The result was overwhelming, both in the
number of children telling Santa their wish list for
Christmas, and the generosity of the 10,000 people who
enjoyed the experience of the Winter Wonderland and
Santa’s Grotto. Our thanks also to the manager and staff
at Wyevale Garden Centre for their wonderful support,
especially organizing the competition to win a huge
Santa sack of toys, won by two year old Max Eastough
who was visiting the grotto with his grandparents, Al
and Gill Eastough of Much Dewchurch.
The Lions Santa Sleigh tour of city streets in the
weeks before Christmas, also a much loved local
festive tradition for some four decades, again showed
Herefordians generous spirit with donations totaling
£3000, which included £586 collected when Santa and
the sleigh were in High Town on December 18.
Lions Club members consider it a privilege to serve
the community throughout the year, but especially
during the festive season and the generous support from
everyone makes it all so worthwhile.
Grotto opens

15th November
at 11.00am
Santa will be arriving by
Horse and Carriage courtesy
of the Riding for the Disabled and will be open
every Saturday and Sunday
from 11am-4pm
Live Reindeer will be
visiting the Wyevale Centre
on the 21st December from
11.00am till 3.00pm.
