LESSONS IN
THE GARDEN
FESTIVE NEWS • DECEMBER 2015 • PAGE 43
St Paul’s Primary School recently officially
opened its new outdoor classroom – a garden
where pupils will learn how the food mum cooks
for them is grown. This is where youngsters will
get their first experience of digging and planting –
and finally harvesting the crop. Another successful community led project.
The site was an overgrown wilderness hidden
behind old Victorian buildings, but already the
children have planted vegetables and will soon be
harvesting them for sale to parents. They even
have a few chickens. To help the pupils learn
about the two world wars a ‘Dig for Victory’ garden has been created and will include an Anderson
Shelter and an Air Raid Shelter. Also included is
a sensory garden and one for herbs.
