RECYCLING LEVELS GET A BOOST FESTIVE NEWS • DECEMBER 2015 • PAGE 37 Hereford is doing its bit to save the planet from being drowned in rubbish, with increasing numbers using the recycling centre at Rotherwas making it one of the busiest destinations in the city. It is a well run and efficient facility and there is no reason for anyone to dump unwanted rubbish in country lanes. We deliver 12,500 tonnes a year from our homes and 73% of all waste taken to the centre is recycled leaving 27% to go to expensive landfill sites. Garden waste accounts for 3,400 tonnes, mostly in the summer, with soil and rubble making up 2,600 of the total. Herefordians manage to fill their black bins for collection with 35,000 of general rubbish a year with another 18,000 tonnes going in the green bins for recycling .
