the runners-up spot in their group finals and earning enough points to give
Hereford the overall tournament title – an accolade they have won on several
occasions in the past.
Organiser Stuart Sheehan of the Lions Club declared it was the best ever
tournament staged by the Brederodes football club with the Hereford
contingent performing brilliantly both on and off the pitch “All the boys
were great ambassadors for Hereford,” he said. The teams are hosted by
local families.

Hereford teams marked the 40th anniversary of an international youth soccer
tournament in Holland in June by returning home as tournament champions.
Hereford Lions Club has been taking four teams of local lads for 39 years,
missing only the first of the series and estimate that over the years well over
2000 young footballers have benefited from the experience of playing in a
European based series of matches.
In the four age groups it was the Under 12’s who won the glory for
Hereford by winning their section with the other three teams each taking

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Dutch Youth
Tournament which Hereford have been playing in
for all but the first matches. Hereford Lions
planted an oak tree at the stadium. Pictured are

oak tree representing the landscape of Herefordshire will be a permanent reminder of the links between the two towns and friendships the
tournament has created between Hereford.

The Under 18’s team

The Dutch club made their annual return visit to
Hereford in October hosted by families whose
sons had been to Holland. They played matches at
Evesham losing all three and then at Lads Club in
the city where the home club won two of the three
matches. The Dutch boys were entertained to go
kart racing at Weobley, lunched at Burghill Golf
Club and were at Edgar Street to see Hereford FC
defeat Quorn.
