This local derby could attract an even bigger crowd than when Hereford were riding high in the football league - probably more than the 4,000 at Edgar Street for the reborn Hereford FC debut in the Midlands Football League alongside Westfields, a city club with its own long and successful history. The smart money might be on a Hereford win, especially as they have been top of the league for several weeks and scoring lots of goals, but it could be the turn of Westfields to be Giantkillers. The dreadful mismanagement of the old United which lost them their spot in the Conference League followed by the ignominy of bankruptcy was a terrible blow, not just for the fans but for the city, too. But the club rose from the ashes in true Phoenix style, led by chairman Jon Hale, financial help from four local businessmen and an army of loyal fans who stuck into cleaning up the mess at Edgar Street and returning the stadium to is former glory ready for the new season.. And the new players have certainly played their part and currently stand a good chance of promotion and, fingers crossed, a speedy return to the Conference and beyond. Off the field, supporters are playing their part in helping run the club. A real case of grassroots football. Local businesses quickly came on board too, not just offering sponsorship, but also reduced rates on work they were doing or materials they were providing. Season tickets quickly went on sale and an incredible An incredible 1400 season tickets have been sold – a fantastic demonstration of quite how much people care about football at Edgar Street. The gates have been higher than several football league clubs. Months of hard work eventually culminated in a hugely emotional day when Hereford FC entertained FC United of Manchester in the first home pre-season friendly on Saturday 11 July. And Hereford delighted the home fans with LEON HARDWOOD Painter & Decorator CHOOSE YOUR CARPET AT HOME 25 years fitting experience For a free, no obligation estimate – call 01432 with Tim Farndon 266969 We will happily move your furniture if required STORAGE w w w. h o mec ho i ce fl o o ri ng . co. uk in the Burley Gate area for caravans, motorhomes cars and trailers G Safe, secure, indoors or out G Owner resident G Open all year round G Access to M50, M5, A49 and Wales G Members of C.a.s.s.o.a. There was a blip when the new team lost three of their first five games, but manager Peter Beadle soon crafted them into shape Beadle’s appointment as manager was itself quite a story as he was the manager who had miraculously kept Hereford United in the Football Conference at the end of the 2013/14 season, only for events off the field to undo the work of the great escape on it. The Bulls face a busy festive period festive wise and maximum points are vital to maintain their promotion chances.. After the Boxing Day m atch against Westfields, who held them to a 0-0 draw at Allpay Park earlier in the season HFC entertain Coventry Sphinx, on Saturday December 28.
