The Mayor, Cllr Charles Nichols described it as an ‘inspirational project’ which would bring great benefits to young and old alike. It is already used by hundreds of youngsters each week and plans are in place to enhance the facilities which are also used for a wide range of other indoor sports. It is run entirely by volunteers The Roller Skate Club was formed in 2010 and used the main hall at Aylestone School but became so popular many had to be turned away. So the club raised the funds to rent and refurbish the Foley trading estate unit, with volunteers doing much of the work to create a light and airy community asset facility available to other clubs or charities. Fitness and yoga are some of the latest activities. Head coach Samantha Bushkes said: “Everyone here is excited at winning the award. It will be used to buy a bouncy castle for children’s parties or fund raising for charities. It will also make the community more aware of what we have to offer.” Check for more details on www.skatehereford.co.uk BOOM BOX FOR SKATERS Hereford skate park on Holmer Road another self-help project by skate enthusiasts now has a club house for the hundreds of youngsters using the facility.
