Fernie’s own mascot The Griz is turning 40! Join in on a special birthday weekend
for Griz Days Winter Festival: A Celebration of our Legacy March 3-5, 2017.
From Ottawa to the peaks of the beautiful BC Rockies, Canada comes together
in 2017 to celebrate CANADA 150, the 150th anniversary of Canadian
Confederation. Fernie will mark the occasion with a year of immersive and
retrospective events beginning this March.
Fernie Griz Days | March 3-5, 2017
In honour of The Griz, the fabled
mountain man born in a cave who
shoots his musket into the clouds to
bring down the famous Fernie powder
snow, Fernie hosts an annual winter
carnival every March. From Historic
Downtown Fernie to the slopes of
Fernie Alpine Resort, a weekend of
activities will take place to excite and
delight all ages in celebration of 40
years of winter festival fun.
At Fernie Alpine Resort, the Extreme
Griz Competition and Raging Elk
Dummy Downhill are as popular with
spectators as they are with participants.
Taking the festivities well into the
evening, the Pub Crawl, Country

Stomp and Outdoor Music & Festivities
are the perfect way to warm up after a
day playing on the snow. There’s more
fun for all ages, from the Craft Fair to
the Parade, Downtown Street Party,
Outdoor Hockey and Fireworks! This
is just a taste of what you can expect
from this special birthday-year event;
