CANADA 150 March 2, 2017 – March 31, 2018
Canada became a nation in 1867 and 2017 marks Canada’ s 150th birthday. Major events are planned across Canada to celebrate all year long with our country’ s official 150th birthday being on July 1, 2017.
DID YOU KNOW? Canada was much smaller in 1867. It only included four provinces: Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. British Columbia became part of the country in 1871.
Fernie’ s planned CANADA 150 events include:
I Am Fernie Fernie Museum March 2 to May 31, 2017
Local photographer Kyle Hamilton has documented the everyday face of Fernie from 2015 to 2017 by capturing
Fernie residents in a series of dramatic portraits. Each subject tells the story of why they live in Fernie and the importance of community and place. Related programming includes a series of hosted discussions to explore perceptions of place, identity, and community.
Maple Leaf Tulips Fernie Eco Garden | Spring
When the flowers begin to bloom in April, take a walk to the Fernie Eco Garden on 5th Street and enjoy the spectacular display of Maple Leaf Tulips. Local gardeners and volunteers have planted a special design with the tulips as part of the Canada 150 celebrations and look forward to sharing it with you this spring!
