Feeling the Sunshine, Spring 2020

Sitting in the woods, in the backyard of where I grew
up is honestly the most peaceful experience I’ve ever felt.
Being back home, visiting my parents, brought me more joy
than I thought was possible. I missed them, and this town, two
things I never thought I’d miss. Living in New Hampshire
now, I am always in the woods, but being in the woods where I
grew up, makes me calm. I’m sitting on a tree, like I did when
I found this place back in 2018. I used to bring the family dog,
Willow, she would love being in the woods. Sadly, she passed
away a few years back, so I’m here all alone. I look up and see
the bright blue sky and the white fluffy clouds. I can feel the
sun on me, and I close my eyes.
“Chelsea come on!” I yell back to my best friend.
I shoot my eyes open and look around to see I’m no longer sitting on the tree I was
before. I am climbing it. I turn around to see my best friend, Chelsea, trying to walk around a
puddle of mud.
“This is a memory,” I think. “It’s when I showed Chelsea this place back in 2018.”
“I’m trying,” Chelsea says.
“Well, if you didn’t wear white shoes, this would be a lot quicker.”
“I wasn’t informed that we would be hiking through the woods!”
“Well, when coming over to my house, you have to prepare for anything.”
“True, true.”
Then, Chelsea gives up and walks through the mud to where I am. I look down to see her
brand new white shoes covered with mud. I close my eyes again, feeling the sun. I open my eyes
and I am no longer in the woods in my backyard, I am in Fermi, in one of the rooms we use for
Buzz.
“Well, I guess we are stuck in here for a while,” Isabela says.
“This is the day we did a secure the building,” I think.
“We are now going to start the secure the building,” a voice says over the intercom.
“Let’s go!” I yell.
“I’m playing music,” Megan says.
“Put on Fireflies,” Aiden says.
Megan puts on Fireflies and she and Isabela start dancing. Aiden soon gets up and tries to
bring me with him but fails. He runs over to Isabela and Megan and joins in dancing. I
automatically take out my phone and start recording as it’s something I never want to forget.
After the second chorus, Isabela and Megan stop and Aiden falls on the floor. I look to my left,
