BY OREGON DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
The Oregon Department of Transportation has announced its construction schedule for 2022 . Included are several projects that will have an impact on the roads surrounding our community .
The most significant project is the improvements to the I-5 Aurora-Donald interchange . ODOT has begun phase 1A , which includes lengthening and widening the northbound off-ramp and the building of a retaining wall and noise wall .
The most significant improvement for Charbonneau residents will be going
Tennis begins with LOVE ! What better way to talk about tennis and LOVE than to introduce you to Alan and Barb Gardner who have lived in Charbonneau for 25 years . Alan and Barb belonged to the Charbonneau Tennis Club several years before moving to their dream community .
“ We always wanted to live here and finally found a way to do it .”
Tennis and Charbonneau has given them lifelong friends , a communitybased social life and a connection to their grandchildren . They introduced their three grandchildren to tennis here at Charbonneau , one at a time . First , their granddaughter , Cammie , under the instruction of Pro Brian Joelson . Cammie played four years on the Sherwood High School tennis team including three years on the varsity team . Alan and Barb supported their grandchildren , not only financially by paying for their lessons , but also taking them to lessons and buying shoes , racquets and equipment .
It makes for a “ special ” bond that all grandparents are searching for , that one special connection that lasts a lifetime for both .
We now move on to Aly , who followed in her sister ’ s footsteps at age 10 , taking lessons here at Charbonneau . Aly was lured away by another activity that captured her heart , cheerleading , but the LOVE her grandparents gave her in support and encouragement is remembered as a special bond . Currently , 15-year-old Nolan is at Charbonneau every week training with our pro , Donna Roisom . Nolan was a baseball player like his dad , but , when introduced to tennis , he said ,” Yes !” He will be trying out for the Sherwood High School tennis team this year . Alan and Barb are always on the sidelines cheering him on ! Since LOVE is the theme for this month , this expression of LOVE , both of tennis and grandchildren , fits the bill and gives us a look into what tennis here at Charbonneau can do for a family !

ODOT annnounces road projects for 2022

southbound on I-5 and then westbound on Ehlen Road is the realignment of Bents Road ( TA Travel Center ). As most of you know , Bents Road intersects Ehlen Road right at the bottom of the offramp . By moving the road to the west 300 yards and aligning it with the road ( Bents Ct .) on the west side of the Flying J Travel Center , it will help eliminate a lot of the congestion at the bottom of the off-ramp . They will also install a temporary signal at the new intersection .
ODOT will also be working on ADA access at several crosswalks in Aurora and on HWY 551 leading into Hubbard .
