MINEOLA
Where There’s Smoke
There’s Fire

Just after 0330 hours, on Thursday,
January 21st, the Mineola Fire Department was dispatched to a report
of a house fire at 540 Watkins Drive
between Emory Road and Andrews
Road. Chief Jeffery Clark [1600],
among the first to arrive on scene,
was met with smoke showing from a
two-story private dwelling and transmitted the Signal 98 [smoke showing].
Moments later a Signal 10 [working
fire] was transmitted after fire began
to show itself through the roof of the
home. Garden City Park Fire Department was designated as the FAST for
the operation. Two lines were utilized
resulting in a quick knockdown of the
main body of fire. The scene was
placed under control within 30 minutes and no injuries were reported.
Additional mutual aid was provided
by the Williston Park, New Hyde Park,
and Garden City Fire Departments,
as well as Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The cause of the fire

was under investigation.
MEDFORD
Explosive Midday Fire

On Tuesday Jan 19th, at about 12:35pm, the Medford Fire Department was activated for a structure
fire at 2400 Knickerbocker Avenue. Units were on
scene within moments as dispatch advised of a possible propane explosion. The seat of the fire was located and two lines were stretched and operated.
Mutual aid was provided by North Patchogue Fire
Department who sent an engine to the scene, and
Yaphank Fire Department supplied the RIT as well
as an engine to stand by at Medford’s headquarters.
The fire was quickly brought under control and overhaul conducted. The Fire Marshal’s Office was on
scene to investigate the cause of the gas leak and fire.
