City of Sugar Land Update to Green Waste Requirements
Community Updates
In alignment with Sugar Land ' s ongoing sustainability goals, residential households will be required to transition from using clear plastic bags for soft green waste to certified compostable plastic bags.
Starting January 1, 2027, Soft Green Waste must be in a Certified Compostable Bag or Personal Reusable Container – not clear plastic bags. This change is being implemented to enable the direct transport of green waste to a new local composting facility in Richmond, Texas.
