MWIS / CDABP TRAININGS
Presenter Veronica Avila, principal of Labor Compliance Enterprise, Inc., discussed labor compliance requirements.
Avila said,“ Stay updated on the changing labor compliance environment. Avoid the compliance trap of payment holds, time consuming investigations, labor code violations, and costly penalties. Being compliant is more essential than ever. Be compliant so you can keep your profits in your pockets.”
Attendees were shown how to properly identify their labor resources and understand prevailing wage and union labor and apprentice requirements, with an emphasis on the role of proper recordkeeping.
“ One of the biggest complaints we hear from a lot of contractors is that they didn’ t know that prevailing wages were required,” said Avila.“ We see all kinds of questions coming in from the subs, such as‘ Well, the General didn’ t tell me, so I don’ t know what I’ m supposed to do when I’ m not informed?’”
Through real-world examples, contractors left with practical strategies to ensure that their labor practices align with public work standards and support ongoing business growth. Participants gained an understanding of how structured documentation and proactive labor tracking can protect their businesses and ensure long-term success in the public works sector.
For contractors in Los Angeles, staying compliant with certified payroll and labor regulations is not just a legal obligation, but a critical aspect of maintaining business integrity and reputation. Failure to comply can lead to severe consequences, including fines, project delays, and legal disputes. Investing in training, robust payroll systems, and counsel are key to successfully navigating the complexities of labor compliance effectively.
