Special Poetry Issue
Sam Bommarito
It’s been quite a year for The Missouri Reader and for the literacy world. After one issue, our new co-editor transitioned to a new position in another state. We were very happy for him as it was a big step up in his career. But as the saying goes, the show must go on. Glenda and Sam have edited one more issue (THIS ONE!) and the Missouri Literacy Association is in the process of finalizing the new co-editors who will edit the next issue of The Missouri Reader in the spring. To help in the transition, Dr. Sam will stay on for a time in a new position- managing editor.
In this current issue, some major figures in the literacy world weigh in on their views about literacy. Their views span a wide range in an attempt to address different sides of the current views of how reading should be taught. We also included articles from practicing teachers who are publishing in a peer-reviewed journal for the first time. It truly takes the whole village to raise the child, and some of our members have quite literally gone to the village to do their work. Check out the article on page 62 to see what we mean. We hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Thanks so much to each of you for all you do to help the children become lifelong readers and writers.
All Our Best,
Sam & Glenda
