Does Cancel Culture Take It Too Far?

Social media is filled with stories about celebrities who have been involved in unspeakable actions or even minor issues that escalated due to false information. Cancel culture will most likely stick to social media like glue, which may be beneficial to certain people. Joe Gatto’s allegations are serious. They can ruin his reputation, but they can also bring awareness to the type of person he may be. Due to the impact of the allegations, Joe canceled his show, showing that the influence of cancel culture reached deep into his personal decisions.

So did cancel culture take it too far, or did it not go far enough? The answer to that question depends on each person’s opinion of the situation. It may be possible the truth will never be known. The consequences remain in a gray area.

Does Cancel Culture Actually Work?

Cancel culture often doesn’t do much to resolve the situation. It rarely helps uncover the full truth, and unfortunately, many people will continue to support an artist, celebrity, or actor regardless of their actions. For example, Kanye West is a well-known artist who has been involved in multiple controversial incidents, yet he is still loved by many fans. Cancel culture often seems like a group of people looking to start drama. Another example is James Charles, who was accused of engaging in conversations with underage teenagers and is currently facing new allegations. He has been canceled multiple times, yet continues to maintain a fan base. While cancel culture can spread awareness, it rarely works completely. Even then, there are plenty of examples of people who have faced serious accusations and are still supported.
