Setting Realistic & Flexible Goals

Although you have now made the decision to change your work ethic and the way that your mind operates, there also needs to be realism in your next steps. By simply telling yourself you are no longer going to overthink starting tasks, or setting extreme goals, it’s never going to work. You need to understand what you can handle, and then pick and choose how you manage your life according to that. For instance, breaking down assignments or tasks into smaller chunks and setting mini-deadlines for each is one method. Of course the same tactic won’t work for everyone, but that is why you can test to see what works for you, and what doesn’t.

Self Compassion & Acceptance of “Average”

One of the leading factors of why perfectionists tend to fall into this flawless ambiance, is due to the fact that they are unable to come to terms with things being anything but perfect. They are harsh on themselves and their performance, and allow no room for any sort of approval within them. However, being gentle with yourself is the number one thing when it comes to your growth. Understanding us as humans have limits, and that there is nothing negative about not being “perfect,” is vital. It is healthy, and it is okay.
