What is different about working at
Saddle Brook High School compared
to where you have worked in the past?
Mrs. Greene believes that her job as a
biology teacher is very different compared to
her past jobs. For example, she believes that her
hours are “more consistent” than her hours in
the veterinary field and have more structure.
How is a normal day for you as a teacher?
Mrs.Green starts her day when she wakes up early in the morning. She believes coffee is “a must to keep things upbeat.” Mrs. Greene enjoys being in school and interacting with students and parents, in person and virtually. She also likes to stay on top of her emails in case students have questions.
Is it difficult to keep students engaged during class due to the aspect of virtual learning?
It is challenging keeping students engaged, especially if they are remote. Mrs. Greene has found that students in school pay more attention there because there are “less distractions than at home.”
What was the most challenging aspect of this year as the new biology teacher?
The most challenging aspect for Mrs. Greene was switching from in-person learning to virtual continuously throughout the year while keeping the students engaged. “There are a lot of labs and a lot of hands-on things we did not get through this year because we were back and forth,” she reflects, as she “only had a certain amount of students in class.”
What college did you go to? Did you study biology?
Mrs. Greene attended Rowan University where she “was a dual major,
studying education and biology.”
What are your goals as the advisor of the environmental club?
The goal for the environmental club is “to keep the courtyard looking nice.” However, the environmental club does much more than just upkeep the school. The club also “shows students what it means to be environmentally conscious, not just in the way of recycling, . . . but in other aspects [like] humanitarian work.”
What are some fun facts about yourself that most people would not know about you?
When it comes to facts about herself, Mrs. Greene describes herself as “an open book.” But, she wants people to know that she loves animals and is passionate about teaching her students. She has three cats and “eventually wants to own a farm with lots of animals.”
