Book review
Author - David Mathis
Publisher - Crossway
When it comes to reading nonfiction I
usually begin with flipping back and forth
through the pages and start reading when
I find something of interest, for some
reason this often leaves me reading the
last chapters first. This time tho I had my
mind set on doing it the proper way. Reading through the contents page it all looked
very promising but by the time I got past
the introduction and preface I lost interest
and closed the book, it just didn’t grab me.
A few days later I reopened the book,
but this time going about it in my ordinary manner and read the epilogue-Communing with Christ on a Crazy Day
and this time the book begun to tickle my
brain. After moving back to chapter threeWarm Yourself at the Fire of Meditation-
I started to go -oooh... that’s interesting.
The part that finally sold it has the headline -Journaling as a pathway to Joy, I was
hooked. This is a book that get comments
in the margin, underlined phrases and
doodles, lots of doodles.
This book is well written, honest and
even tho all chapters covers the same
subject-habits of grace-they also offers a
broad variety of angles that speaks both
to the one seeking the right path as the
one that has lost his ways and struggle
to get back. Every chapter is also easy to
digest and structured content- and length
wise, to use as a guide in a Bible study.
To summarize this book in one sentence
-Habits of Grace has made me reflect on
and deepen my relationship with Jesus.
