One of the many wonders of our little town that so many people don’t know about is a little downtown building next-door to Antigone’s called the Art Loft. Megan Lisenby Brantly is an art-fanatic who has lived her whole life in Brewton. She attended T. R. Miller and was taught art by Mary J. Young who Megan says in fifty-percent of the reason she’s an artist today. Megan teaches classes at the Art Loft for all ages of people interested in bettering their own artistic skills. The Art Loft also displays artwork of many local artists including Larry Manning, Jim Gay, Lyn Gill, and Sean Dietrich.
The building itself used to be just a furniture storage room for Antigones, until Megan jokingly told the owner of the building, and her employer, Donna Brackin, that Donna should let her use it as her “studio”. Never did she believe that a building packed to the ceiling with furniture would turn into what it has: a home for art and expression in our community.
Megan, who is currently an intern with Mrs. Miller at Brewton Middle School while finishing up a degree in art at UWF, is hoping to get a grant so that she can teach art to students who don’t have the opportunity or can’t afford art classes. “There’s
