MPV and SUV RV Trends . Cars have clearly become a commodity with people moving quickly as a new fashion or trend appears and purchases made on the monthly cost rather than total sticker value. When the Renault Espace launched in 1984 it was ground breaking and whilst sales of large MPVs have declined the reduction in volume has meant supply and demand have kept in equilibrium, in fact it has almost gone the other way with limited volume for larger MPVs helping increase RVs. Whilst smaller cars from the premium German brands became the next big must have it wasn’t long before SUVs became de rigueur, which resulted in RVs increasing quickly, as you can see. With new models now available from almost all OEMs we are starting to see RVs stabilise as SUVs of all sizes become mainstream. Once again we can see how volatile the UK market can be with RVs having risen too sharply on the luxury SUVs before the market then quickly corrects itself before starting to rise again. 52 50 48 46 44 42 40 38 36 34 32 30 2010 % RV - M2 Large MPV Diesel Segment 2011 EU Average Spain 2012 France Portugal 2013 2014 Germany UK European Automotive Report - 2016 Quarter 2 2015 Italy 2016 52 50 48 46 44 42 40 38 36 34 32 30 2010 52 50 48 46 44 42 40 38 36 34 32 30 2010 % RV - J2 Compact SUV Diesel Segment 2011 EU Average Spain 2012 France Portugal 2013 2014 Germany UK 2015 Italy 2016 % RV - J4 Luxury SUV Diesel Segment 2011 EU Average Spain 2012 France Portugal 2013 2014 Germany UK 2015 Italy 2016 Sour 13
