Passenger Car RV Trends . It wasn’t long ago when everyone was talking about car buyers downsizing due to the recession but that trend seems to have slowed or even gone into reverse as we see RVs for small cars falling in countries like the UK and Germany as buyers switch to the trendier models like SUVs. Even medium and large sized cars are seeing a slight improvement in most countries although the premium medium sized cars in Germany are losing out a little with demand moving to other models. Portugal and Spain are back at the top as the two markets with the strongest RVs after a number of years where their values fell well below the other markets, particularly in Spain. However the recent ruling by the EU Court of Justice regarding Portugal’s unfair used vehicle import tax should see RVs come under pressure and eventually fall more in line with neighbouring countries. 56 54 52 50 48 46 44 42 40 38 36 34 32 30 2010 % RV - C2 Medium Premium Diesel Segment 2011 EU Average Spain 2012 France Portugal 2013 2014 Germany UK European Automotive Report - 2016 Quarter 2 2015 Italy 2016 50 48 46 44 42 40 38 36 34 32 30 2010 52 50 48 46 44 42 40 38 36 34 32 30 2010 % RV - B1 Small Petrol Segment 2011 EU Average Spain 2012 France Portugal 2013 2014 Germany UK 2015 Italy 2016 % RV - D1 & D2 Large Premium Diesel Segment 2011 EU Average Spain 2012 France Portugal 2013 2014 Germany UK 2015 Italy 2016 Source: Experteye AG.
