EW explores some regional news highlights in the global exhibitions industry
Europe – Global exhibition organiser
CloserStill Media has acquired a majority stake in the rapidly growing Hydrogen Technology Expo and Carbon Capture Technology Expo events in the United States and Germany . Terms of the deal were not disclosed . The events become the latest additions to CSM ’ s newly established Future Transport and Infrastructure Group , following its recent acquisition of UKI Media and Events .
Launched in 2021 , the co-located Hydrogen Technology Expo and Carbon Capture Technology Expo events take place annually in Houston ( June ) and Bremen , Germany ( September ).
Americas – Following the cancellation of its 2023 edition , E3 2024 has confirmed that it currently has no organiser or location – leading to doubts about the video game industry ’ s cornerstone trade exhibition ’ s future .
Previously organised by ReedPop , the company and the Entertainment Software Association ( ESA ) have confirmed that ReedPop will not organise future editions of the event . Furthermore , E3 will no longer be at the Los Angeles Convention Center , the show ’ s usual host .
According to GamesIndustry . biz , a media outlet owned by ReedPop , the ESA is planning to ‘ reinvent ’ the show going forward , but no details have been shared to date .
Europe – The NEC Group in
Birmingham , England , owned by private investment company , Blackstone , has appointed Melanie Smith , CBE as the company ’ s new chief executive officer . She succeeds Paul Thandi CBE , DL , who moves to the position of chairman after nearly 17 years as CEO at the NEC Group .
Smith brings more than 25 years ’ experience in executive and operational leadership to the live events business , having successfully delivered performance transformations at leading UK consumer and retail businesses , including Marks and Spencer , Bupa and TalkTalk .
Middle East – The Abu Dhabi
National Exhibition Centre ( ADNEC ) and Al Ain Convention Centre , part of the ADNEC Group , report a record number of major strategic events in the coming months . The total number of events that will be hosted at the ADNEC centres during the next four months of the year are expected to exceed the pre-pandemic period by more than 30 %.
The exhibitor , visitor , and expert line up at these events is expected to be boosted by at least 40 % over pre-pandemic era levels of attendance . Many of these events are coming to the Middle East for the first time .
