EW explores some regional news highlights in the global exhibitions industry
Americas – Exhibition Place , a leading Canadian event destination , generated over $ 594m in direct revenue for the economy in 2023 . According to its Economic Impact Report , the site hosted 1,761 events , attracting 5.5m attendees and supporting 3,726 jobs . Spanning 192 acres , Exhibition Place features major venues like the LEED Platinum Enercare Centre and BMO Field . Large-scale events such as the Collision Conference and Toronto Caribbean Carnival were held there . Visitor spending reached $ 174.7m , with lodging accounting for $ 69.5m .
Europe – UK-headquarered
CloserStill Media has aquired a majority stake in Parntership Network Events ( PNE ) for an undisclosed amount . PNE produces hoster-buyer events across the public sector in the UK , US and Middle East . The investment in PNE complements CloserStill ’ s existing Healthcare and Learning portfolios in Europe and strengthens its hosted buyer portfolio businesses . Founder and CEO , Jack Jacob and COO , Dean Finnegan , will continue to lead the 50-sttrong PNE team from its Sussexbased office in England . Novistra , led by Ash Mittel , advised PNE on the transaction .
Europe – Global freight , customs and site handling services supplier for exhibitions , DSV has announced its largest deal to date , acquiring Schenker from Deutsche Bahn for € 14.3bn . The acquisition will significantly boost DSV ’ s global presence , with the combined entity expected to generate € 39.3bn in revenue and employ 147,000 people across 90 + countries . DSV plans to invest € 1bn in Germany over the next 3 to 5 years , maintaining a strong presence at Schenker ’ s Essen base . The deal , set to complete by Q2 2025 , strengthens DSV ’ s divisions and marks a turning point in its growth strategy .
Middle East – Dubai Ruler Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved a AED10bn expansion plan for the Dubai Exhibition Centre ( DEC ) at Expo City Dubai . Part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan , the DEC will become the largest purpose-built indoor events venue in the region . The three-phase project aims to increase capacity to 180,000sqm by 2031 , hosting over 600 events annually by 2033 . The expansion will boost Dubai ’ s status as a global hub for business , tourism , and megaevents . The DEC Master Plan also supports the establishment of Dubai ’ s new urban centre , encompassing Expo City Dubai .
