“ Having a comprehensive stroke center in Daytona means([ the patients) have the highest level of care and don ' t have to wait for a helicopter ride to Jacksonville or Orlando,” says Weis, noting that seconds matter when it comes to brain damage from a stroke.
Building on this commitment to expanding specialized care close to home, the Freytag Cancer Center at AdventHealth Palm Coast recently opened on Memorial Medical Parkway.
“ We know that cancer is an ever-growing need in our community, and we continue to expand our services,” said Denyse Bales-Chubb, president and CEO of AdventHealth Palm Coast and the Flagler and St. Johns market.
The $ 30 million facility will offer precision medicine, immunotherapy and personalized treatments based on each patient’ s genetic makeup. A cancer resource center will provide free resources to support patients and their families.
Another upcoming project includes a new 12-bed ER off State Road 207 in St. Johns County, set to open in July 2026. It’ s expected to bring 56 jobs to the area. Another 10-plus acres off the same road may be the future home for primary care and specialist offices.
“ We’ re looking forward to that,” said Bales-Chubb.“ There’ s more to come.”
For many healthcare systems, the rapid population growth challenges even the most well-laid plans. That’ s why ongoing capital projects are at the top of Weis’ todo lists.
“ We’ re doing a lot to try to catch up and meet that need, but I think that’ s one of our most pressing needs is catching our infrastructure up,” said Weis.
