EverythingLocal spent some time with Michelle Petersen and spoke to her about the soup kitchen she runs from her house in Northpine .
Hello Michelle , thanks for taking the time to chat to us , please will you tell us more about the soup kitchen and what made you decide to get it going ?
We opened the soup kitchen on 21 st June 2014 . Prior to that , my husband and I were contemplating and had a long debate about this . We discussed it with our kids , they were elated knowing that they too can help make a difference in at least one persons life by feeding them . With winter that was fast approaching , we decided to just get up and go ahead with our plan .
AS your soup kitchen is a non profit organisation , how has the support been ?
In all honestly , the support hasn ’ t been what we expected it to be , but also , we are not looking for charity so we ’ re more than happy to fork out ourselves . There are a few ladies who have been donating on a regular basis and we ’ re eternally grateful to them .
On average how many families do you feed at a time ?
On average we serve over 50 people ( from Scottsdene , Wallacedene & Bloekombos ), every Saturday .
Where does the soup kitchen operate from and how often do you serve meals to the less fortunate ?
The kitchen is run from our home & serve every Saturday
