So as you may have heard, the Western Cape is down to less than one hundred days of water. Think about that. Before the wet winter weather comes along, there will be no water. And while we can lament the irony of a country three quarters surrounded by water in middle of a drought, it doesn’ t help. We have a bed, we need to lie in it.
So that means shorter showers, no watering the garden. Definitely no back-washing that pool. And no washing your cars … unless …
You happen upon a waterless carwash.
Big
Afro waterless car-wash is doing their bit. As opposed to using buckets, or worse a hose pipe, this small enterprise is revolutionising the way we clean our cars. The chemicals they use ensures that less than a spray-can of total liquid is used to get your back to all it’ s shininess. If you are just doing the exterior, it’ s done in less time than it takes this reviewer to drink a cup of coffee. If you opt to have the interior valeted, the whole process takes less than an hour.
So we’ re saving water, taking less time, but how well do they actually clean the cars. As far as this reviewer is concerned, my ruby red Renault was cleaner and shinier than any traditional car wash ever did. The interior smelled clean with no overpowering cleaning chemical scent.
In fact if I was looking for a downside, I could only find one. This fledgeling business is owner-run and growing fast. It is popular enough that you can expect your car to wait in line before he can get to it. It’ s a great initiative. Not only are we saving water, but helping a small business. It’ s a win / win. So best you book a day in advance. The extra effort is well worth it.
