Bordeaux is an ideal short break destination and one that works in the winter. There are direct flights from London but also it is reachable by train from London via Paris with the journey from Paris to Bordeaux being just over two hours. Bordeaux, whilst renowned for its surrounding vineyards, is a beautiful city with elegant 18th and 19th century architecture, a Gothic cathedral, art museums and public gardens. A highlight is now the Bassins des Lumières digital art gallery which is housed in Bordeaux’ s WWII submarine base. Exhibitions are displayed around the four wet docks. This winter in Bordeaux there is the exhibition at the Cité du Vin, exhibitions of the Egyptian Pharaohs and the Orientalists at the Bassins des Lumières, you can take a guided city tour or a guided tour of the Bordeaux vineyards and from 21 November until 7 December there is an autumn antiques fair in the Place des Quinconces. Bordeaux also has plenty of fine dining to tempt.
NOTES We include flights from London to Bordeaux but you can travel by train from London to Bordeaux easily in one day. Our included hotel is the 4-star hotel in the city centre, the Hotel de Sèze. We have based the holiday on just 3 nights but extra nights can be added.
