Prague’ s magical, medieval spirit really comes to life in the festive season. The city’ s spires and turrets, cobbled streets and cosy taverns appear to revel in the festive atmosphere. Soak up the ambience as you explore the old town on foot, admire the silhouettes of the statues on Charles Bridge or drink in the views from Hradcany Castle. Combine a cultural visit with the Christmas season; there are markets from about 23 November until 30 December, ice skating in Wenceslas Square, concerts in the churches and historic buildings throughout December, and the Christmas lamplighter on Charles Bridge from 1 to 23 December between 16.10 and 16.30 hrs. The Laterna magika is on at the Estates Theatre throughout the autumn and winter, and the Nutcracker is at the National Theatre from 17 December to 10 January. Take warm clothes but Prague is even more picturesque with a dusting of snow.
