AN OLD SCHOOL BUILDING IN KARSIYAKA, ERDEK
The school was established in 1904 in Karşıyaka by a Greek fisherman, Mike Papadapulos.
Karşıyaka’s name was Perama in those days. In the beginning it was used as a fisherman’s
shelter and after that it was turned into a greek school. It started being used as a school in
1905 and until 1926 it was used as a Greek school. In 1926 it began serving as a Turkish school,
following the population exchange between Turkey and Greece. During that time, the principal
was Mr. Muallin Nevzat Recai, but there is no official record or information about him. The
official record book wasn’t started to be kept until 1929. Mean while Mr.
İsmail Hakki is the head teacher. Between 1933-1946, the school was used as a
boarding school of the region. In 1945-1946 the school adopted some new
modifications and the building has been out of use since 2005.
