CEREN ÖZEL HAYDARÇAVUŞ MOSQUE It was built by Haydar Çavuş in 1570 (during Selim II's reign).It was built as a campus for science education and Islamic sciences with a library and a workplace. Only the mosque survived until today. It is a one-domed, square planned mosque. It was made of wood when It was first built. It burned down completely in the Great Fire of Bandırma in 1874. After that, It was built again in 1877. This time it was made out of stone. During the Turkish War of Independence, when the Greeks were withdrawing from Bandırma on the 17th of September 1922, they bombed the mosque. Only the minaret of the mosque survived. After a short period of time, It was built again in 1923 by Mimar Kemalettin (Kemalettin the Architect) and was opened again. It is still being used as a mosque today. Haydar Çavuş Fountain: It is in front of the Haydar Çavuş Mosque. It was built in 1906, during Abdulhamid II's reign and was renovated many times throughout the years. It was built so that people can clean themselves before their daily prayers in the mosque. However, today it is only used as a fountain.
