“Honey, this is a quiet area. It couldn't have happened. I think you were tired…”
“Oh mum. Never mind, just let's go home.”
A few days later…
It was a beautiful morning in Manchester. While Holly was at school, Meredith was cooking dinner. Suddenly she heard strange whispers coming from upstairs. “Mereeeredith… Mereeeedith…. Coooome to meee…”
It reminded her of what her daughter had said about a similar situation. Now she believed her. Then, she heard a big crash, and all the lights went off. She was really frightened. She couldn't make sense of what was happening.
She decided that she needed help. So, she took her phone and called the only person who could believe her, because she was sure that nobody, out of all the people who lived in this area, would believe her. It rang three times before she heard the well-known voice:
“Good Morning. Here Jack Walker. How can I help you?”
“Jack, Meredith here…”
“This is Meredith? Thomas’s wife? Please accept my sincere condolences. I knew Thomas really well. He was for me like a brother. Therefore I would do anything for you – what do you need?
“Oh, thank you! Good God. I am so scared. Are you still a detective?”
“Yes, why are you asking?”
“I need your help. My new home is strange! I’m frightened! Is it normal that I hear voices?! Of course it isn’t, but my daughter heard them too. I know you can think that I am abnormal. But I’m telling you the truth! Oh, Jack…”
“Ok! Easy Meredith. You have to keep calm. Breathe…. I will help you. As you said earlier, I am a detective. I have met with many strange things in my life. That’s why I’m going to help you.”
“I am so glad. You are my only hope.”
“Great. You just have to tell me: where are you living now?”
“Oh, yes, yes of course. In Manchester, Moon Street, in the outskirts of the city.”
“I got it. I will come over as fast as possible. See you soon, and look after your daughter. Don’t go outside in the night.”
“I promise. Drive safe. Good bye.”
After the conversation she felt a load off her mind. She didn’t hear any more voices, and the lights came back on. Full of hope, she went back to her cooking.
