At the turn of the 21st century, One Mission Society( OMS), then known as OMS International, began shifting its strategic focus. In addition to supporting daughter denominations, we started partnering with existing ministries that shared our vision and values. At that time, many missionaries were using materials they had developed independently or borrowed from others. It became clear that training for the multiplication of disciples, churches, and leaders needed to improve.
In South Asia, one of our partners was introduced to a training methodology called Train & Multiply( T & M). Originally written by George Patterson and organized by Study by Extension for All Nations, the materials were later purchased by Lloyd Niles, president of Project WorldReach,
who wanted to make them accessible worldwide. OMS began promoting T & M to our ministry partners.
Then, in 2012, OMS entered into a joint agreement with Project WorldReach. T & M benefited from a thorough review by OMS’ Theological Education team. We collaborated to produce Edition 4.0, a strong, biblically grounded version of the materials that is more internally consistent. Our team is now engaged in a translation and publishing process that supports the increased use of the materials in training our partner ministries. As more languages are translated, we are training leaders in their heart language to reach their own people for Jesus Christ.
