Training Skillful Hands

Since our founding in 1901, training has been a central focus. As soon as One Mission Society( OMS) began ministry in Japan, we established a training center to equip believers to lead, teach, and serve. That approach— training the sons and daughters of the nations to reach their own— became a foundational aspect of OMS.
This edition of OMS Outreach honors that legacy and highlights how we uphold that commitment today. OMS is involved in a broad spectrum of training, ranging from informal discipleship and mentorship to structured certificate programs and formal advanced academic degrees. We believe training is not a one-size-fits-all effort but a Spirit-led journey of equipping individuals at every level for fruitful ministry.
While effective ministry depends on God, we must offer him“ integrity of heart; with skillful hands”( Psalm 78:72 NIV). OMS encourages everyone to pursue ongoing development through various learning opportunities. Although Laura and I have been involved in missions our entire lives, we recently enrolled in a course called Perspectives that explores the biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic growth of Christianity. My dad would often say,“ If you lose your desire to learn, you give up your right to teach.” None of us are too old— or too young— to keep learning.
As we reflect on our rich history of equipping others and look ahead to future opportunities, we remain committed to training leaders who will make disciples, plant churches, train the next generation of leaders and missionaries, and transform communities for Christ and his kingdom. Your partnership in this vital work is what makes it possible.
For Christ and his kingdom,
Jeffry Max Edwards
